“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” ~Henry David Thoreau
This quote has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid in high school, shortly after dinosaurs roamed the earth (well, okay, it feels that long)
The other day, I found the following graphic on facebook. I'm sorry I don't know who the originator was or I would gladly give them the credit. If it was you, please let me know. But the point is, this reminded me of the David Thoreau quote that I love so much.
However, even though I love this quote and the following graphic, I am ashamed to admit I don't always live it. Sometimes I find myself viewing a person who "is following their own drummer" and I thinking not-so-good things. I have to remind myself that, in fact, it is a GOOD thing that they are being who they are, and yes, even admire that fact.
So if you are one of those who are "different'', I say to you, dance on! As it is said, "Those who care don't matter, and those who matter don't care."
